Transportation is the movement of people, goods, or animals from one place to another. Transportation is basically divided into four categories. They are transport by road, transport by rail, transport by air, and transport by water.

Transport by rail employs railways—a system of tracks—and trains for efficient transportation of passengers and freight over land.

Transport by water uses waterways as it leverages rivers, canals, seas, and oceans for shipping goods and passengers via boats, ships, and other water vessels.
